A love note to Appalachia, in the form of a hinged sterling silver locket.
A sweet little homestead by the creek, with a freshly-sown bed of crops peaking at the corner of the piece. The waning moon aloft in the sign of Capricorn, number one for all root crops, according to Foxfire Book 1, so a little onion is hidden inside. My grandparents never failed to check the Farmers Almanac to know the proper moon phase and time to plant what type of crop.
A large citrine sits in the sky, a lustrous representation of the sun. A small thunderstorm begins to roll in, from which the geese are fleeing over the mountain.
The back has a quote from Genesis 1:14, “ Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years.”
When worn at night, a small battery powered light hidden inside the locket shines through, lighting up the stars, moon and lightning features of the landscape! During the day, flowers could be placed in the holder inside the locket, letting their scent waft through the openings of the moon and stars.
The pendant is 3 1/4" tall, 7/8" wide, and 13/16" deep. It comes on a 24" handmade sterling silver "paper clip" chain.
